About Café Momentum
Café Momentum is a nonprofit restaurant and professional training facility in the heart of Dallas, Texas. The program offers a 12-month paid post-release internship for young men and women coming out of juvenile detention. These Interns rotate through all aspects of the restaurant while focusing on the development of social and life skills with a comprehensive case management team. Our team works to transform young lives by equipping our community’s most at-risk youth with life skills, education and employment opportunities to help them reach their full potential.
Role Summary
The goal of the Catering and Retail Sales Manager is to manage the overall administration and execution of catering events and retail/wholesale orders. The Catering and Retail Sales Manager is responsible for creating a professional and pleasant experience for Café Momentum customers. This role works in close partnership with the restaurant team to plan all catering events. This position reports to the General Manager, is a full-time, salaried position with commission on all food and beverage sales (excluding labor costs and other catering fees), retail, online and wholesale sales.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and multitasking skills, is detailed and organized, patient, creative and passionate about joining the work Café Momentum is doing. Experience in restaurant and food service settings is required.
Responsibilities
-Catering Responsibilities
- Book all in-house and off-site catering events.
- Respond to all initial catering/retail inquiries within 24 hours or sooner.
- Create processes and procedures to streamline the administration and execution of catering sales.
- Keep all current events organized and easy to access for FOH and BOH staff.
- Ensure all BEO's have 25% deposit before confirming event.
- Communicate with staff once an event is confirmed.
- Communicate all staffing needs to the GM for scheduling
- Communicate all supply needs for catering to ordering chef.
- Communicate all alcohol beverage ordering needs to GM with appropriate leeway for timely ordering.
- Present catering calendar updates in weekly staff meetings.
- Assist restaurant staff in monitoring and training interns while working the catering events.
- Ensure customers pay in full the day after every event.
- Assist accounting with any invoicing issues/questions in a timely manner.
- Maintain and grow current catering clientele.
-FOH Responsibilities
- Work alongside interns to develop workforce and social skills and confidence.
- Keeping Interns engaged and on task through mentorship and guidance.
- Ensures consistent high quality of service.
- Ensures sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness and maintenance of dining areas.
- Maintains appropriate restaurant image, including restaurant cleanliness, proper uniforms and appearance standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ensure appearance and communications are always professional.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must submit to and pass background check prior to final employment offer.
- Must submit to and pass county clearance within 45 days of employment.
- Must be cleared to drive interns and insurable on catering vehicles.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 2 years of Catering and/or sales experience is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with catering software TripleSeat is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment, passion, and compassion for the mission of Café Momentum.
- Ability to maintain workplace confidentiality and take ownership/accountability for own actions and aspects of the job.
- This position requires working with interns/juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts; applicant should possess a high tolerance for working in a possible emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.
- Acts as a representative for the organization in the community and at special events.
- Applicant must be able to do the following activities for about six continuous hours: stand, walk, stoop, squat, kneel and bend.
- Bend from a standing position in a manner that allows the palms to touch the knees.
- Bend from the waist in a standing position with arms outstretched for an extended period.
- Twist, turn and/or stretch from side to side.
- Lift, carry and/or support 40 pounds from shoulder level to above the head with no assistance.
- Perform duties requiring repetitive and non-repetitive motions with hands and wrists.
- Work with caustic and non-caustic chemicals.
- Work in hot and/or humid environments.
