Scott Patton PC, is a boutique law firm in Houston, TX specializing in the defense of employment, commercial, and healthcare-related matters. The Firm has an active trial practice and offers competitive compensation and benefits.
JOB SUMMARY: The individual in this role primarily supports attorneys in a busy defense practice with an emphasis on labor and employment, commercial litigation and administrative matters. This is a hands-on position that involves working collaboratively with clients and employees of the firm.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to handle case management and discuss case details with attorneys and staff
- Possess excellent communication and time management skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work autonomously on routine tasks
- Maintain and organize files including electronic files and archiving related documents in ongoing and completed cases
- All Calendaring and E-filing for assigned team or docket, including DCOs, Scheduling Orders, Depositions, Hearings, Client Meetings and any other deadlines or events (including reminders) and appearances not specifically stated
- Ability to coordinate depositions, hearings, meetings or other events with clients, witnesses, court staff, opposing parties, vendors and team members
- Assist attorneys with preparation for depositions, hearings, and trial
- Ability to draft, proofread and/or edit legal documents to include pleadings, discovery, correspondence
- Ability to navigate the file in order to gather documents to prepare exhibits or for Bates labeling and production
- Maintain document/production logs, order and maintain records logs and handle FOIA and Open Records requests, as needed
- Possess strong computer skills and ability to communicate and/or troubleshoot with IT technician as needed
- Possess working knowledge of Pro-Doc and Pacer e-filing systems and ability to e-file and/or e-serve documents with various state and federal courts, regulatory agencies and other parties, organizations or entities as required
- Working knowledge of MS Office 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel for Mac), Adobe Pro, Zoom, and ability to use a multi-line phone
- Process expense reimbursements for attorneys, as needed
- Other job-related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3-5+ years of experience in a civil litigation defense practice, preferably with an emphasis in labor and employment.
- Organizational and critical thinking skills required
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with court personnel, attorneys and their staff, clients, witnesses, and outside vendors
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, Adobe Pro
