We are looking for an experienced accountant that is interested in working for a fast-growing, diversified private corporation at our headquarters in downtown Bryan. The Accounting Manager will play an integral part in the oversight of accounting department staff, the closing process, and completion of detailed analysis projects. The ideal candidate has a team mentality, can perform complex accounting activities, and can expertly utilize technology to analyze large quantities of data with superior attention to detail. This position reports to the Controller and works in our corporate office in downtown Bryan.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Team Builder / Manager - We have 10 smart, hardworking, positive people on the accounting team who work well together to accomplish goals. This role would be responsible for helping to continue to grow our team by:
- Providing positive direction and feedback to train, develop, and problem solve
- Maintain responsibility for and review the work performed by the team
- Identify areas for improvement and help to implement changes
Accounting Responsibilities –We utilize NetSuite, AP Automation software, freight dispatch software, and a proprietary lumber software to house the data needed to accurately report the financial state of the company. Excellent computer skills are required to:
- Perform complex general ledger account reconciliations and prepare journal entries as needed for the monthly 10 day close
- Prepare and review schedules and work documents needed for external audits
- Assist in documentation of processes and key policies
- Maintain fixed asset records and complete property tax renditions
- Prepare monthly sales tax reports
- Monitor vendor managed inventory and offsite inventory records for accuracy
- Work on special projects and reporting as assigned
Minimum Qualifications – Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited 4-year college or university
- 5+ years of relevant work experience
Minimum Qualifications – Skills
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, including experience in journal entry preparation, general ledger account reconciliation, and financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (pivot tables, x-lookup, sumifs, etc required)
- Experience with ERP accounting systems (NetSuite strongly preferred)
- Highly detail-oriented and well organized
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
