JOB DESCRIPTION
The Unit Secretary under the supervision of the Director of Medical Records assumes responsibility for the management of active resident records. She/he assures that records are properly maintained and stored safely. She/he also assures that all resident information is complete and properly signed according to agency guidelines. The Unit Secretary will work as an extension of the nursing department under the direction of the Unit Manager. This position will be responsible for meeting the day-to-day needs of the nursing department under the direction of the Director of Medical Records and/or the Unit Manager. The Unit Secretary will also follow-up on labs, weights, I & O record and diabetic monitoring, making sure all is in compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer the telephone in a courteous and polite manner and deliver relate to appropriate personnel.
- Answer the intercom promptly and notify the assigned nurse or CNA of the residents’ request.
- Book resident appointments and notify each family as needed.
- Complete all admission/discharge paperwork as required.
- Coordinate records on resident restraints, accident reports, incident reports and infection control issues, as directed.
- Conduct all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of residents, visitors, families and fellow employees, and communicate in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner.
- Must be sufficient in computer knowledge to navigate E- mail, attachments and updating assignments.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Long-term care experience preferred.
- Inventory management experience preferred.
