Job Title: Activities Coordinator - Overflow

The Activities Coordinator will be responsible for the overall recreational program at the Bay State Overflow shelter in Norfolk, MA
-
This is a 12-month contracted position
Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:

The Activities Coordinator will establish recreational programs for both children, teens and adults staying at the Bay State Overflow shelter in Norfolk, MA
-
The Activities Coordinator will establish rapport with participants and create an atmosphere that encourages social interactions and engagement via structured in-house and outside activities

Conduct in-house recreational activities on a weekly basis, such as movie night, dominos, cards, music appreciation or other such pastimes

Conduct in-house activities in coordination with Case Management on a regular basis that promote independent living such as accessing community activities and community resources

Confer regularly with other staff to promote program integrity and proactively identify any group issues that need addressing

Organize activities and network with community resources to access movies, admissions, and other enhancements for the participants in the program to facilitate community-based activities

Set a tone of respect and support for all participants of the program

Attend team meetings for staff to do activity planning in conjunction with other team members

Maintain necessary documentation in a timely fashion

Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Manager
Qualifications / Requirements:

Requirements
- Creativity and passion for recreational programs for all ages

Self-starter who can help create a new recreational program

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

Stand for prolong periods of time
- Preferences:
- Prior work experience in family shelter, residential programs and or Resident Service Coordinator roles are a plus

Haitian Creole and or Spanish language preferences

Work Environment
Office space within a shelter building; prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer, OR requires equal amounts of sitting and standing, must be able to climb stairs. The building is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning.
