Joe Hill Consulting Engineers is seeking the services of an electrical engineer. We are looking for someone who is excited to help us to grow our electrical engineering practice while providing critical support to ensure the continued reliable operation of the public infrastructure which serves water and power to the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The electrical engineer will support electrical power distribution and instrumentation and control system design, power system studies, construction, testing, startup, commissioning for large scale public works water/wastewater infrastructure and power generation projects.
The Electrical Engineer must have, through training and practical hands-on experience at industrial facilities (water/wastewater is preferred), appropriate background knowledge in such areas as planning and design of medium and low voltage power distribution systems, in-plant generation systems, motors and motor controls, standard and special construction requirements, instrumentation and control systems and automation, protection and control systems, and equipment inspection, installation, operation and acceptance and maintenance testing methods.
· The position will work under administrative direction to: Perform planning, pre-design, and final design work including researching data and determining design criteria in accordance with required standards and codes; prepare drawings, specifications, and estimates for the construction, installation, and modification of electrical equipment at pump stations, water/wastewater treatment plants, and related facilities.
· Prepare drawings including single- and three-line diagrams, site plans, facility and process plans, grounding plans, equipment elevations and layouts, panelboard and luminaire schedules, conduit and cable schedules, control schematics and elementary diagrams, installation and typical details, and block and interconnection diagrams.
· Perform a variety of computations and analyses related to electrical power distribution and controls including short circuit and protective device coordination studies, load flow studies, arc flash studies and mitigation, harmonics and grounding analyses, motor starting, transient analyses and cable pulling.
· Prepare, review, and check engineering drawings, plans, specifications, computations and estimates for completeness, accuracy, and soundness of applied engineering principles.
· Confer with engineers and field personnel from other utilities, public agencies, industries and others to obtain or provide technical information.
· Coordinate with muti-discipline project team members including civil/structural, mechanical, corrosion, and control system engineers, and client and other engineering, operations and maintenance personnel.
· Monitor construction activities and ensure equipment installations are in compliance with approved Project documentation and standards.
· Verify correct and safe performance of electrical equipment. Support energization of new or modified equipment in support of testing activities.
· Assist CM in resolving design, construction, and test exceptions with the Project Engineer/Resident Engineer.
· Review testing and commissioning plans and offer recommendations for improvement.
· Review test results and coordinate any required retesting.
· Verify that factory and field functional testing procedures are complete prior to energizing equipment.
· Develop a punch list for commissioning activities prior to Project turnover.
· Review work sequence, testing scope, and outage planning.
· Review Project design documents, drawings, and detailed installation test plan from Design Builder.
· Perform a detailed review of DC and AC schematic drawings. At a minimum all tie-in points to other relay/control schemes will be verified during this review; verify as-built drawings.
· Monitor and review testing of system protection, SCADA, and communication systems.
· Review test data to client standards and review in-service test data (load flow verification).
· Monitor testing of medium and low voltage, cable, and switchgear, and similar electrical equipment and systems.
· Monitor protective relay testing and review relay settings.
· Monitor functional testing in accordance with the single-line meter and relay diagrams, three-line, current and potential and schematic diagrams, and logic diagrams.
· Monitor functional testing for instrumentation and control systems, including PLC’s, wired and wireless communications devices and HMI.
· Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing activities.
· Access confined spaces, if required.
· Work long days, nights, and weekends depending on test schedules, as needed.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent additional experience.
· Minimum of 3-years' experience as an Electrical Engineer with power distribution and instrumentation and control system experience.
· Familiarity with industry standards (NEC/CEC, NFPA, NETA, NEMA, IEEE, OSHA, NECA, IESNA, UL, ISA, ANSI, ICEA, EUSERC, TIA).Experience with vendor software packages for configuration of electrical power distribution protection and control equipment, distributed control systems, SCADA Systems, PLC’s, and HMI’s.
· Hands-on experience with electrical power distribution equipment integration, commissioning, and maintenance testing.
· Experience using power system analysis and design software such as SKM Power Tools, ETAP, and CDEGS.
· The Electrical Engineer will be required to work an average of 40 hours per week, and the weekly work schedule will be adjusted as needed depending on test schedules.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
