We are seeking to fill a Part-Time Biological Field Monitor position in Santa Rosa, CA.
The Field Biologist will assist with environmental compliance wildlife surveys and monitoring. The ideal candidate will currently reside within Sonoma or Napa County area to support projects locally and remotely.
Applicants must submit a resume detailing their relevant work experience with California listed and special status species, handling permits (if applicable), construction monitoring, project experience, and other pertinent experience.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Pre-construction Nesting Bird Surveys
- Perform Biological Monitoring for nesting birds and other special status species (2+ years experience working with Migratory Birds, Raptors, Western Pond Turtles, CA Red-legged Frogs, Foothill Yellow-legged, CA giant salamander, Red-bellied newts, and Steelhead is preferred)
- Prepare High-Quality Technical Reports and environmental documents
- Ensure Client Compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Communicate with Regulatory Agencies, Field Biologists, and Construction Crews to complete reporting requirements
- Proficient Working Knowledge of Project Environmental Requirements and associated laws protecting biological resources
Job Requirements (Mandatory):
- Degree in Wildlife Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, or similar
- Minimum 2 Years Relevant Experience as a Professional Biologist, including a Minimum of 1 Year Environmental Consulting Experience
- Previous monitoring and surveying experience is required, and prior approval as a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) and California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) biologist is preferred
- Current CDFW Approved Resume
- Special-Status Species Experience
- Experience Monitoring Bird Nests
- Employment is contingent upon the candidate's approval by the USFWS and/or CDFW as a "Qualified Biologist" or "Biological Monitor" on a project-by-project basis
- Ability to Work in a Variety of Terrains and Weather Conditions
- Ability to Stand for Extended Periods of Time
- Travel As Needed
- Ability to Lift up to 30 lbs.
- Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle, and Vehicle Insurance
- Computer and Reliable Internet Connection
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS applications (including desktop ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123, etc.)
- Successful Building and Maintaining Professional Working Relationships
- Plant and Plant Community Identification Skills for species common to California
- Experience working with Construction/Utility companies
- Experience Conducting Special Status Species Surveys and/or Relocations
- Strong Technical Report-Writing Skills
- Prior Biology Experience working in California, Utah, Arizona, or Nevada
