Job coaches specialize in assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to meet their vocational goals in accordance with Lanakila Pacific’s values and program standards. Job coaches provide instruction in learning soft and hard skills through classroom instruction and center and community-based services. Through structured intervention techniques, the job coach assists employees and participants in learning to perform job tasks to the employer's specifications and to learn the interpersonal skills necessary to be accepted as a worker at the job site and in related community contacts. In addition to job-site training, job coaching includes related assessment, job development, counseling, disability awareness building, job accommodations, social support, problem-solving, advocacy, travel training and the development of natural supports needed to maintain employment. Job coaches support the work of Employment Specialists and Employment Services Coordinator. Communicate with clients to understand their vocational goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties
- Assist clients to discover and overcome their personal barriers and set goals.
- Implements and maintains age appropriate and outcome-driven training programs, classes and activities to support a healthful and respectful learning environment for all participants and in accordance with each participant’s individual plan.
- Provides education and support in all areas related to obtaining and maintaining employment, such as accessing community services, assistive technology, communication/interpersonal skills and socialization, community mobility, financial management, health and wellness, job search techniques and job interviewing.
- Observes and assists participants in their respective training departments.
- Use appropriate methods to assist participants to overcome social, behavioral, and skills deficits that can be a barrier to employment by working collaboratively with department managers and staff.
- Assess the strengths of participants and teach them to use them effectively.
- Work with the Employment Specialist and Employment Services Coordinator to develop effective 1:1 job coaching and employment plans.
- Understands the participant’s essential job tasks and teaches tasks in manageable components based on the participant’s best mode of learning and capabilities.
- Provides on-the-job support and assistance to participant(s), demonstrating and reinforcing, as needed, skills learned with the objective of ensuring their success in their specific work setting and evaluate progress of clients.
- Reports to supervisor any changes observed in participant’s behavior, general condition, and employment status in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and document the participant’s progress and challenges in the appropriate file, through progress notes and reports, by established deadlines.
- Works with the Employment Specialist and Employment Services Coordinator to implement new appropriate goals for the participant.
- Assist individuals with disabilities in developing social and life skills.
- Consult with Employment Specialist and Employment Services Coordinator to identify and advise employers on workplace accommodations for people with disabilities.
- Participate in participants’ team meetings as requested.
- Be a role model for the participants to emulate (i.e., grooming and dressed in compliance with the organizations dress code, reliable attendance, pleasant and professional attitude, etc.).
- Implement and use curriculum and instructional media, including online videoconferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meets, WebEx, etc.)
- Teach etiquette and social skills to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Utilize community resources for participant instruction and outings.
- Communicate effectively with all clients, programs/departments and staff, both orally and in writing; can read and understand written material and can write effectively to meet the job requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:
- Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday to Friday, 7:30am-4:30 pm. 8-hour shift may vary. May be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
- Indoor, office setting, outdoors; may need to do deliveries, travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc., as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Education: High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of progressively responsible work experience teaching, coaching or facilitating, and working with individuals with a variety of disabilities or similar populations.
- Clearance/Certification: Must maintain the following clearances/certification: 1) annual TB clearance, 2) current First Aid and CPR Certification (Obtain on the job), 3) Criminal Background check, 4) Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, 5) Child Protective Service check and Adult Protective Service check, 6) Fieldprint Fingerprinting, 7) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract with access to an insured vehicle.
Preferred:
- Education: Associates Degree, preferably in psychology, social or human services, education, vocational rehabilitation, or in another field from an accredited college or university
