Position Summary:
The Trailer Mechanic performs required inspections and preventative maintenance on trailers and equipment within planned time tolerances to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections on all fleet trailers, and any other company owned equipment in accordance with all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all state required inspections and frequencies)
- Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet, trailers, and any other company owned equipment.
- Perform quality maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet trailers and any company owned equipment
- Create and complete work order entries. Maintain work order and trailer maintenance records
- Utilize the company's maintenance software program to create and complete work orders
- Conduct all levels of preventive maintenance functions such as regular servicing of trailers, and equipment inspections
- Electrical diagnostics, repair and replacement
- Lead and/or assist with the physical parts purchasing, inventory, receiving and proper charge out of parts to work orders
- Performs general cleaning and repair duties
- Oversee other shop personnel
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 year school and 2 year of experience or 4 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
- Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training
- ASE certification required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions outside
- CDL Class A preferred
- 609 HVAC Certification
- Brake Inspector Certification, knowledge, skills and abilities
- Working knowledge of computer based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
- Technician must own and provide all tools necessary to perform maintenance. Diagnostic equipment, major shop tools, and secure toolbox will be provided by the company
