PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The elementary science coordinator will oversee and improve science education for elementary grades. This includes developing and implementing a science curriculum that aligns with state standards, providing professional development for teachers, and ensuring access to effective instructional resources. The coordinator will also organize science-related events, monitor student progress, and work on continuously improving science instruction to promote scientific literacy.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university;

Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher with an emphasis on teaching science;

Valid Texas Administrator/Principal certification;

Previous leadership experience in curriculum preferred; and

Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, and cooperating with others.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Probationary/Term Contract: 220 days
SALARY:
$ 74,807 (IA-4)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinate the development, review, and update of the elementary science curriculum and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, and scope and sequences.

Organize and maintain curriculum guides and resources on the district's curriculum management system.

Collaborate with campus principals and curriculum and instruction department members in developing, implementing, and supervising the elementary science curriculum.

Facilitate, plan, and support summer programs, including summer school and all additional science intervention/enrichment student programs.

Work with teacher committees to determine priority objectives in science.

Work with appropriate instructional personnel to establish district standards for acceptable levels of student achievement in elementary science.

Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine the effectiveness of the elementary science curriculum and instruction programs.

Provide training for teachers in areas related to improving student learning.

Plan and provide staff development for elementary science teachers, administrators, and staff.

Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.

Participate in purchasing, using, caring for, and replacing science materials and resources.

Assist with the adoption of textbooks for elementary science.

Participate actively in science organizations and encourage the participation of other science teachers.

Supervise elementary coaches and curriculum specialists.

Oversee and support the Science Resource Center (SRC) staff and activities.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Direct the work of instructional coaches.
