Job Overview
The Guest Relations Associate is an engaging role at the forefront of customer service at the Michigan Science Center, primarily working at the Box Office and Science Store. Additional Guest Relations work locations may also include Kidstown, Toyota Engineering Theater, IMAX Dome Theatre, and the office level. The ideal candidate will be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is vital, will be confident and self-directed when providing excellent customer service, and report guest feedback to management in a timely manner. This is a chance for a motivated individual to help bring science, technology, math, and engineering to life for students and families in our community.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Provide excellent customer service to all members and guests entering the museum by upselling unique Michigan Science Center experiences including theaters, exhibits, membership, and merchandise.
· Become the eyes and ears of the guest experience and building conditions, and effectively communicate concerns through proper channels.
· Ensure show readiness by arranging stanchions and signage and keeping work areas secure.
· Track lost and found items.
· Open and close out cash registers in accordance with strict cash handling procedures.
· Support additional guest experience locations including membership fulfillment, group reservations, and call center operations as needed.
· Be knowledgeable about the museum and its internal and external public products and services.
· Direct guests around the museum and help with upkeep of museum floor appearances throughout the day.
· Maintain data confidentiality in compliance with legal requirements and MiSci standards of excellence.
· Promptly and effectively deal with guest requests and complaints.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
· High school diploma or GED completion required and must be at least 18 years of age.
· 2 or more years of experience in point-of-sales, reservations, telemarketing, and/or customer relations required.
· Computer, cash handling, and credit card processing experience required.
· Must be able to speak and write clearly in English; communicate professionally in person, over the phone, and by email.
· Must be able to work a flexible part time schedule including weekdays, weekends and occasional evening hours.
· Must not have legal restrictions on working with children.
Physical Demands
Walk throughout large Science Center between multiple floors, lift and move ≤25 lbs. from time to time and either stand at a counter or sit at a desk for the entirety of a 4-10 hour shift, with occasional kneeling, bending, twisting; use computers, tablets, scanners, and telephones with headsets for whole shifts.
