Job Title: Controller (Hybrid Remote)

Job Summary:
We are looking for a Controller experienced in performing the day-to-day accounting operations including month-end closings, preparation of the financial statements, and accountable for the general accounting, in-house payroll, payables, receivables, project setup and billing, cost accounting, cash and debt service management. The ideal candidate will have experience in Government contracting and must be able to research, analyze, coordinate, develop, and maintain business documentation. This individual will be responsible for vendor invoices, accounts payable, expense reporting, monthly account reconciliation, recurring and ad-hoc journal entries, and more.
As a small, growing company, the Controller’s leadership will be crucial in overseeing financial operations, implementing strategic financial initiatives, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Controller must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Functional Responsibilities:
Perform the day-to-day financial operations of the company and ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Maintain General ledgers and sub-systems.
- Prepare books for annual independent audits and supervise annual audits.
- Assist auditors with tax return preparation.
- Maintain appropriate cash flows for daily operations.
- Coordinate with project managers with assignment and set up of charge codes.
- Oversee AP/AR and record cash receipts.
- Process accurate and compliant semi-monthly in-house payroll.
- Ensure timely payments of company income taxes.
- Collaborate with Human Resources with timely administration and management of employee benefits.
- Perform monthly Bank Reconciliation.
- Review and process expense reports.
- File semi-annual sales and use tax report.
- Prepare and file various federal and state reports.
- Process annual performance appraisal salary changes.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong business and accounting skills.
- Able to perform work in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Deltek and Excel
- Strong analytic capabilities and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, management, and staff to exchange accurate information, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
Requirements:
- 10-12 years’ hands-on accounting experience working for a 10-25M GovCon company
- Experience with Billing, In-House Payroll, Payables, Project Accounting, and Establishing Rates
- Experience with Government Contracting
- Knowledge of Government Compliance (FAR)
- Deltek Costpoint experience required
- GAAP experience
- B.S. in Accounting, Business, Contract Management, or related field required
- In-house payroll experience required
- CPA also a plus but not required
- Must be authorized to work in the US
