ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, NETWORK AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPERATIONS

The Position: The incumbent, under the direction of the Director of IT Infrastructure Services and in accordance with CSU and University policies and procedures, is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of network engineering, services, and operations for wireless, wired/LAN, firewall, and telecommunications (telecom) across Cal State LA. This position requires strong technical expertise in network and telecom technologies, as well as excellent leadership and management skills to effectively manage a team of network engineers and other IT professionals. The Associate Director, Network and Telecommunications Services plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable and secure operation of the university’s network infrastructure. This position requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders. The incumbent will prevent service disruptions by overseeing intermediate Level 1 troubleshooting of alerts, issues, and problems as they arise, including Windows Server, LAN/WAN Networking, Unix/SAN, Security, Wireless, and VoIP; ensure documentation of delays and outages to support strategies for improvement, and support root cause identification and provide leading-edge solutions; manage the support operations related to the University’s network communications systems; campus-wide backbone; local area networks; intra-and inter-building telecommunication infrastructure; inter-campus telecommunication infrastructure, wireless; video; inside and outside cable plants; and other communications technologies; direct maintenance and data integrity of administrative databases including, but not limited to, cable plant inventory, station equipment inventory, network addressing, and work order management; ensure appropriate performance and/ or bandwidth on the campus backbone, as well as CENIC, to support campus requirements; ensure that new procedures are developed and executed, or existing procedures updated, to reflect changes; develop and recommends new policies and regulations for communications equipment, network operating systems, and network security, when necessary; provide leadership for all network and communications infrastructure projects; oversee evaluation and selection of equipment and system vendors; ensure all work meets industry and campus standards for compliance, correctness, and quality of a finished product; and recommends migration strategies for existing systems, servers, and networks; evaluate new technology and assesses its applicability to organizational and institutional requirements.
