About the Role
Oak Park School District seeks a dedicated and dynamic full-time multi-lingual (English as a Second Language) teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students, a strong understanding of language acquisition, and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Essential Skills and Responsibilities:
- Teaching ESL Classes: Design and implement effective ESL curriculum, lessons, and activities that align with state standards and cater to the language proficiency levels.
- Individualized Instruction: Provide differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of English language learners, considering various learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Develop and administer assessments to evaluate students' language proficiency and monitor their progress. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a cohesive and integrated educational experience for all students.
- Parent and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents and the community by communicating effectively about students' progress, organizing parent-teacher conferences, and participating in school events.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse backgrounds to create an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment.
- Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in ESL education, attend professional development opportunities, and actively engage in ongoing learning to enhance teaching skills.
- Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment that promotes a love for learning, mutual respect, and collaboration.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, ESL, or a related field (Transitional Bilingual endorsement preferred).
- Valid PEL with ESL endorsement.
- Preferred previous experience working students, particularly English language learners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the performance of light work—which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The
position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere. The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions. ?
