SPECIAL KIDS IS A NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN THERAPY AND NURSING CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. We are licensed professionals, but first we are Christ followers with a mission to “serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children.” Special Kids offers professional services to children ages 3 months through 21 years. Nurses at Special Kids’ Kleinau Nursing Center serve medically fragile children who need skilled nursing care, in collaboration with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists. No evenings, weekends or holidays. Full-time 36 hours per week.
Summary
Provides care for the medical needs and assists with activities of daily living for children enrolled in the Skilled Nursing program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties within scope of practice may be assigned.

Completes and documents initial assessments for new patients enrolled in the Skilled Nursing program.

Provides daily head-to-toe assessment of assigned patients, including vital signs, and documents in electronic health record (EHR).

Administers prescribed medications and treatments such as catheterizations, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, oral and tube feedings in accordance with professional nursing standards, policies and procedures, and documents administration in EHR.

Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients by assisting them with duties such as diaper changes, toileting, positioning, and making beds.

Observes patient, and documents significant events, conditions, reactions and interventions in EHR.

Notifies supervisor and/or the patient’s physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

Requests new orders from patient’s physician in response to changes reported by caregiver or changes in patient’s condition.

Responds to and coordinates team response to medical emergencies involving assigned patients, based on nursing standards, policies and procedures.

Provides and documents patient and family education.

Participates in department quality improvement activities.

Cleans work area and equipment as assigned and as needed throughout the day.

Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

Offers guidance to Certified Nurse Assistants working with the same group of patients

Education and/or Experience
Degree in nursing from NLN accredited institution. One to two years related experience and/or training desired. Pediatric experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Active and unencumbered Tennessee State RN license and CPR American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider with skills testing certification.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.
