JR PACKAGING LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Job Description
Operating under the general supervision of the SR. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN, this person is responsible for performing material property and packaging testing, utilizing instrumentation and associated software to generate and publish test results. In addition, they will be expected to help maintain the laboratory’s facilities, equipment and online database of test procedures and results.
Duties:
- Make personal and laboratory safety a high priority in all activities.
- Conduct all job duties in accordance with the company’s and the department’s established policies.
- Perform routine material and packaging tests according to company and/or customer-specific standard test methods. Document and organize tested samples for future inspection and/or testing.
- Compile, analyze and report test data to the SR. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN in the appropriate electronic format along with relevant observations and conclusions.
- Recognize when results do not meet expectations and advise the SR. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN of these deviations.
- Develop competency of all laboratory equipment and standard test methods.
- The preferred candidate is expected to, over time, be able to interpret the test results and report the conclusions of the testing to the SR. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN and LABORATORY MANAGER.
- Problem solves using established troubleshooting techniques or advises the SR. LABORATORY TECHNICIAN / LABORATORY MANAGER of these deviations.
- Performs simple repairs and/or modifications to lab equipment to conduct testing required or manage internal or external repair personnel.
- Maintain good housekeeping.
Education/Technical/Soft Skills
- Bachelors Degree is required, specialization in a STEM field is preferable but not required
- Ability to understand the relevance of lab test results and show a basic understanding of statistics.
- Knowledge of general physical testing of polymers and packaging, while not mandatory, will be considered a plus.
- Demonstrate a strong math aptitude for basic calculations including, but not limited to, English to metric conversions, percentages, recipe formulations, geometry and arithmetic.
- Strong proficiency in MSOffice software required especially Excel for data analysis, plotting and tabulation and PowerPoint for data presentation.
- Team player with aptitude for learning, “can-do” attitude, and respect for supervisor and coworkers
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
