GENERAL PURPOSE: The Clinical Coordinator and Instructor is primarily responsible for teaching, coordinating clinical sites, and developing relationships with the facility through clinical contracts. These contracts establish the role of the facility, college, and student in ensuring ultrasound students get a thorough, hands-on educational experience. The Clinical Coordinator and Instructor must maintain strong working relationships with site supervisors, on-site sonographers, and department directors at clinical locations. When applicable, The Clinical Coordinator and Instructor will meet and oversee meetings held by other qualified college faculty with student supervisors at each site to evaluate student progress and to collaborate on resolving any student matters. Ensuring that each student gets a quality experience that meets the various ultrasound registry requirements and school criteria for on-site training is vital to the effectiveness of the externship/clinical portion of the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with the Program Director for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and Vice President of Education, the Clinical Coordinator and Instructor is responsible for (including but not limited to):
· Teaching sonography lecture and lab courses.
· Collaborating with the campus leadership to identify clinical placement needs for students.
· Oversee the appointment and deployment of faculty who will visit externship sites based on their registry specialties to evaluate overall student proficiency and preparedness.
· Identifying, recruiting, and establishing collaborative relationship with clinical/practicum sites.
· Maintaining current and establishing new ultrasound student affiliation agreements with sites affiliated with the program.
· Submitting requests to clinical agencies for student clinical site placements.
· Responding to inquiries from clinical agencies regarding planned student clinical site placements.
· Providing clinical agencies with course-related information and expected clinical student-learning outcomes.
· Assigning students to outcome appropriate sites related to the Registry(s) they wish to pursue.
· Conducting weekly site visits to clinical sites and assessing student progress while at the site.
· Coordinating collection and evaluation of student and supervisor evaluation of clinical sites; submits data to the Campus Registrar and Program Director.
· Complete site viability studies before a site is approved as a potential clinical site.
· Scheduling and notifying students of clinical site rotations as well as site specific requirements for onboarding.
· Preparing other orientation documents for all students each quarter.
· Collecting all attendance logs ensuring they are complete including signature and dates from the appropriate supervisor.
· Monitoring and reporting clinical clearance records for students (i.e.: CPR certification, background checks, health, and immunization requirements).
· Overseeing the evaluation process of student performance.
· Excellent communication skills for internal and external interaction via face-to-face, text, email, and other forms of communication.
· Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills required.
· Comfortable with teamwork and a high degree of accountability.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Leadership, organization, effective teaching, time management, communication, interpersonal, relationship management, advising, and speaking.
EXPERIENCE Experience with methodology, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and guidance, while not mandatory, is strongly preferred. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations desired, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to manage working relationships. In addition, you need strong planning and organizing abilities to set up and manage the clinical rotation. A professional attitude and passion for helping students are also essential based on the prominent role you play.
EDUCATION Associate of Science or Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and at least 3 years of verifiable sonography field experience in at least one, preferably two, of these specialties: Abdominal Sonography, Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonography, and Adult Echocardiography.
