General Statement of Position
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping duties for residents; sweeps, mops and uses vacuum cleaners to clean floors; dusting, cleaning bathroom fixtures and floors.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Know and understand the vision, purpose, values and goals of Anthem Memory Care.
- Follows work schedules;
- Cleans bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, tubs, showers and floors; replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary;
- Cleans kitchen areas, including counter tops, floors, appliances and sinks;
- Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture, doors, baseboards and window sills;
- Sweeps, mops and vacuums floor surfaces and furniture; may spot clean carpets;
- Washes windows;
- Empties trash receptacles; may deposit recyclable material in proper receptacles;
- May drive an electric cart or push a utility cart within the retirement community;
- Takes note of safety concerns and needed repairs and reports to supervisor;
- May change bed linens once weekly (or as necessary) for all residential care apartments;
- May sweep around dining room tables in dining room after breakfast and noon meal;
- Attends in-service training workshops and meetings as required;
- Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with the community’s safety program;
- Provides effective and courteous service to all residents, guests and coworkers;
- Promotes and protects the rights of all residents;
- Performs other related essential work as required.
- May, upon resident’s absence, clean and disinfect room, bed, furniture, bathroom, cabinets and clothes closet;
- Ensure that common areas are sanitized in accordance with established infectious disease control policies and procedures.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Have the legal right to work in the USA (we E-Verify);
- Able to successfully pass a DOJ/FBI background check, pre-employment physical exam and be free of Tuberculosis as evidenced by a TB test. No DUI’s please.
- Must be able to obtain first aid/CPR certification and successfully complete Bloodborne pathogens training within 30 days of hire;
- Must be able to communicate both written and orally in English;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the community needs, with regular and timely attendance required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs., push/pull up to 40 lbs., carry up to 30 lbs., frequent standing and walking required;
- Prior assisted living housekeeping or janitorial experience highly desirable. A dedication to providing excellent, compassionate care is a must!
Certification and Clearance Requirements
- Requires First Aid and CPR certification through the American Red Cross;
- Must receive criminal records clearance from the Department of Justice and FBI;
- Must have health screening and T.B. / CXR clearance.
Job responsibilities also include laundry and Maintenance Technician functions such as:
- Ensures that all laundry is properly sorted, washed and dried according to State and Federal regulations.
- Ensures that the laundry room and surrounding areas is maintained in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition.
- Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by the supervisor.
- Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Clean lint traps as directed.
- Ensures that every resident room is appropriately stocked with linens (sheets and towels).
- Must have the ability to perform minor carpentry skills and jobs.
- Must have the ability to perform some electrical jobs and have knowledge as to when to call someone for assistance.
- Will perform a variety of plumbing functions.
- Some minor repair of appliances will be assigned at times. Knowledge of dishwashers, vacuums, disposals, washers, dryers, etc. will be helpful.
- Must be able to operate hand tools and know how to do so safely.
- Must wear a pager or cell phone and be available for emergency situations.
- May perform janitorial duties, such as garbage pick-up, cleaning spills, etc.
- Must be aware of the dangers of hazardous chemicals, cleaners and paints that are used in daily job.
- May need to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Complete simple work orders and tasks assigned on a daily basis.
- Must learn fire system and alarm system as to be able to handle emergencies.
- Is responsible for care of equipment, tools and be able to report non-functioning tools to supervisor.
- Must know location of emergency shut off valves and safety equipment.
- Work with Construction dept. as needed in renovations, etc
