Position Description
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for managing the intake process for substance treatment referrals, conducting assessments, completing and timely submission of service authorization request (SAR) and facilitating group sessions. Ensuring all documentation is collected and in compliance with the regulations. Counselor will assist program manager in the day-to-day operations of the office, respond to referral request, review client records to ensure proper completion and compliance, keep track of document and folders used during services.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage the intake process for all substance treatment referrals
- Conduct assessements and complete SAR
- Facilitate group meetings, develop interventions, group activities, client coordination of care and transportation.
- Create new client files for Substance Abuse treatment clients; monitors clients files ensuring that all necessary documents are included.
- Ensure client electronic records maintain compliance, group therapy records are organized and submitted timely in electronic system.
- Answer and screen incoming calls for substance abuse treatment referrals.
- Maintain common areas, including light housekeeping and organization of group environment.
- Use necessary tracking tools (e.g., Excel spreadsheets) to track and monitor intake progress and proper coordination of care for client.
· Work closely with leadership and treatment team to discuss program update and challenges, client progress, new client’s counselor assignment and overall program feedback.
· Perform inspections of client files to ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory standards as well as Soaring Eagles Policies and Procedures.
· Performs any other duty which may be requested but not included herein.
Education & Experience
Must be recognized as a CSAC by the Virginia Board of Counseling.
- Has obtained a degree in a related field (social work, psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, sociology, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, human services counseling) and at least one year of experience providing direct services to individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness and/or substance abuse.
