CDMG has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Civil Design Engineer with experience in structural and foundation engineering design to join our Canonsburg Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have strong structural and foundation engineering experience in heavy industrial markets.
The Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing various structures and foundations. This position requires thorough knowledge of structural and foundation design and engineering techniques. Is responsible for using professional experience in consulting to prepare effective designs and supporting documents, confirming specifications and compliance to applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices. In addition, research advanced technology regarding best practices in the field and determines the most cost-effective solutions.
The ideal candidate will also have a client focus approach and will work well independently and as part of the project team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
Reviews Client's technical documentation and requirements.
Maintains project technical files.
Controls of subcontracted civil engineering documents.
Considers the strength of construction materials and select appropriately.
Provides technical advice on safe designs and construction.
Provides drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by designers/drafters.
Obtains planning and/or building regulations approval.
Monitors and inspects all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
Inspects properties to evaluate the conditions and foundations.
Prepares design specifications for reinforced concrete, buildings, earthworks, and underground networks, piling works and soil improvement.
Develops calculation notes for reinforced concrete, piling works and storm water collection systems.
Prepares material specifications and designs for structures and foundations.
Preparation and review of construction engineering estimates.
Preparation of construction quantity estimates.
Skill Factors
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering or a related field of study.
Five (5) years of professional experience in structural and foundation engineering.
Must have an analytical and mathematical mind.
Requires a strong grasp of physics and three-dimensional conceptual skills.
Ability to solve challenging technical problems through creative solutions.
Accurate and precise attention to detail.
A good working knowledge of construction methods, materials and legal regulations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent business and technical writing.
Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Capable of working well independently or as part of a project team.
Strong work ethic - results driven.
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Project, Access), and Plant 3D, Cadworx 3D, Autocad 2019, Navisworks Manage 2019, and Navisworks Freedom engineering and design software.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field of study, and five (5) years of professional experience. P.E. registration a plus.
