Overview:
This position is responsible for the execution of fieldwork and data collection in compliance with quality standards for the technical work and in accordance with various agency requirements and guidelines, as well as general standards of scientific quality. Other aspects of this role will be fieldwork preparation, progress tracking, data management, as well as cursory identification of cultural resources and/or materials.
Responsibilities:
- Lead fieldwork under the supervision of the Project Archaeologist or Principal Investigator

Effectively communicate project status with senior staff through the production of scheduled field status reports

Perform fieldwork preparation duties, such as securing equipment, supplies, and paperwork

Successfully navigate crews to project sites with consideration of land access restrictions

Provide daily quality assurance and quality control of field paperwork as needed

Post-process field data for deliverable production

Complete equipment and vehicle maintenance as needed

Mentor and train entry-level staff

Ensure fieldwork is performed in accordance with applicable safety regulations and company policies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts/Science in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field

Completion of an academic archaeological field school preferred

2 years' of experience leading archaeological field investigations, such as Phase I surveys or construction monitoring on projects in Texas

Candidate must have one year of experience in San Antonio or the greater South-Central Texas region, with preferred experience on historic and Spanish Colonial sites or urban archaeological projects

Ability to successfully execute research designs and scopes of work in the field with moderate oversight

Ability to identify and record artifacts, features, and historic-age structures

Ability to accurately complete field forms and thoroughly photo-document artifacts, features, and other cultural resources

Maintain field forms and logs with minimal errors, sometimes for projects with discontinuous field mobilizations

Proven ability to direct and mentor field technicians

Exceptional organizational and record keeping, critical thinking, and time management skills

Ability to successfully delegate tasks

Experience with digital data collection platforms and Global Positioning Systems

Must be able to work in the field under various terrain and weather conditions on a consistent basis

Ability to effectively communicate with team members

Must be able to work independently
