Responsibilities:
- Entering diagnoses and procedure codes.
- Submitting claims to insurance payers and posting payments for clinicians through paper or ERA.
- Appealing and settling denied, underpaid, and unanswered claims.
- Sending statements to patients and handling patient questions regarding their bills.
- Following up with patients with a payment reminder.
Whenever billing is up-to-date, responsibilities shift to assisting the receptionist with:
- Answering phone calls to the practice and relaying information to the office manager and/or physicians.
- Greeting all patients in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
- Overseeing the check-in process: verifying patient information, talking through health insurance information, and obtaining paperwork.
- Overseeing the check-out process: preparing prescriptions and/or labels for dispensed medications, scheduling follow-up appointments, collecting payment, and sending out referrals.
Required Background:
- Prior medical billing experience for at least 3 years, and completed a program related to medical billing.
Preferred Background:
- Prior (general) medical office experience.
- Strong computer skills.
