LEAP Learning Center is seeking Literacy Tutors for September 2024- May 2025! Work with an amazing team of educators dedicated to creating positive outcomes for at risk students.
LEAP, a non-profit organization, serves approximately 500 academically at-risk elementary students each year by providing no-cost Reading Intervention to 5 Title I Public Schools within TUSD (Tustin Unified School District). Our mission is for each student to attain literacy mastery in order to succeed in school and beyond.
Job Description:
The Literacy Tutor provides targeted Reading Instruction to small groups of students under the guidance and support of the Site Supervisor, a credentialed teacher. Instruction involves using appropriate texts to instruct students in the components of literacy: phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Ongoing training is provided.
The Literacy Tutor will be assigned to 1 public school site and meet with the same students 2 OR 4 days per week (M-TH) from September 2024 to May 2025 according to the TUSD School Calendar.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct literacy instruction and mentoring with small group of students selected for LEAP by TUSD
- Conduct instruction according to LEAP and TUSD curriculum and procedures
- Plan daily lessons for groups (planning time included) with support from Site Supervisor
- Create a safe and engaging learning environment for students
- Support students’ oral and written language development
- Build meaningful relationships with students
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- College student or college graduate with strong literacy skills
- Ability to learn and implement the principles of the LEAP Reading Program
- Background check
- Reliable transportation to and from your assigned school site
- Ability to positively relate to children of all learning styles and backgrounds
TIME COMMITMENT OPTIONS:
2 days per week: Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday
4 days per week: Monday through Thursday
HOURS: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday:2:00-5:00 Wednesday: 12:45-3:45
Salary: $20-22 per hour, depending on education and experience
