Reporter needed in Northwest Colorado
Salary Range: $35,000-$48,000
The Craig Press is a small weekly newspaper that seeks an energetic reporter to cover a variety of beats including public safety, government, community news and general assignment stories. We value integrity, teamwork and a commitment to the community.
Responsibilities will include writing well-sourced, bylined stories and news reports in addition to producing shorter staff reports and news briefs. We will expect you to ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling and grammar in all your reporting duties. The job will also require some photography, and experience with page design and layout is a big plus.
Craig is a small and friendly rural community in Northwest Colorado that is off the beaten path. The city is surrounded by millions of acres of public lands where there are endless places to camp and miles of trails for hiking, biking and riding. Moffat County comes stocked with adventure for anyone who loves the outdoors. The Yampa River runs through Craig and Moffat County, offering opportunities for rafting, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing and swimming in the spring and summer. During the winter, Craig has tons of places for snowshoeing, cross country skiing and hunting.
Qualified applicants will have a journalism degree, a degree in a similar field or applicable experience. They also should have a deep knowledge of AP style; the availability to work some nights, weekends and holidays; a current driver’s license and transportation; and most importantly, a serious desire to perform quality community journalism.
