Coordinates the Memorial Hermann Cancer Registry to ensure approval standards by the American College of Surgeons and the Texas State Cancer Registry.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associates Degree.
Licenses/Certifications: Certified Tumor Registrar certification.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Five (5) years oncology experience.

Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, ICD-9 and knowledge of current cancer coding guidelines and Commission on Cancer Program standards.

Ability to run registry reports.
Principal Accountabilities
-
Analyzes patient records, program files, reports and other cancer related data to ensure approval standards by the American College of Surgeons and the Texas State Cancer Registry. Creates charts or graphs and analyzes statistics.

Prepares cancer incidence reports and analyzes statistical data of the cancer program activities for audit review, administrative review, and physician review.

Assists in abstracting and analyzing medical records. Analyzes medical records of re-admitted patients for current follow-up and/or secondary treatment.

Monitors quality of cancer registry abstract process with physicians.

Monitors data download for accuracy to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and National Cancer Data Base.

Coordinates and facilitates cancer conference activities as required by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Works with hospital cancer chairman and/or hospital cancer program administrator to identify cancer program needs through compilation of cancer statistics.

Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
