Specific to this role: We are looking for Floater DSP to provide direct supports to adults with I/DD in their homes, which serve 2-5 clients each, and during integrated recreational/leisure activities in their community.
- Successful applicant must have residential experience, be reliable, available for a flexible 40 hour work week, able to change work hours with a 2 week notice, and be willing to be trained to work in all 6 agency group homes.
- Shifts may be weekday or weekend, overnight, or during the day, in the home, as well as in the community for day and early evening activities.
- Shift duties/shifts will be identified and scheduled every 2 weeks in advance. With that, applicants must be able to work all listed shifts.
- Paid extensive training, overtime hours may be available, but are not required.
What are the Responsibilities of a DSP (Direct Support Professional)?
DSPs support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) by providing them with safe living environments, helping them with daily tasks, and teaching them life skills. This could include:
- Assisting in meal preparation and follow menus.
- Maintaining a sanitary environment.
- Evaluating and documenting client progress.
- Administering client medication treatments, per agency policy.
- Attending to client medical needs.
- Utilizing a basic knowledge of behavior management.
What are the requirements to become a DSP?
- A sincere desire to work with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) is the most critical qualification.
- Ability to communicate and work positively with adults with I/DD and their families, other community members and program staff.
- Must be literate and capable of understanding written and verbal orders.
- Must have the ability to stay calm in stressful situations and be able to respond in emergency situations at all times.
- Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States.
- Must consent to and pass a criminal background check.
