GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Provides welding related services to the Manufacturing and Product Engineering Departments. The RWC is assigned as the duly designated person who acts for, and on behalf of, the organization on all manufacturing weld matters when requested. Provides in-house welding engineering expertise regarding the application and interpretation of codes, processes and practices affecting welding, fabrication, and quality assurance activities. This includes, yet is not limited to developing, approving, and maintaining weld procedures, welder qualifications, and helps support customer required inspection and test plans.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain a working knowledge of the ASME and AWS welding codes, and ISO or customer specifications, and prepares all written welding procedures (PQR and WPS) in accordance with them.
2. Act as technical lead for all welding questions.
3. Support contract and specification reviews concerning welding and NDE requirements. Provide technical support for code specification and regulated requirements during contract review.
4. Help support technical reviews concerning material, weld specification, quality, and inspection requirements. Define weld processes, material traceability, inspection and test plans and manufacturing plans.
5. Reviews various product drawings for compliance within the designated welding specification and make recommendations to correct indicated variances.
6. Support any sub-contracting efforts concerning manufacturing and procurement. Review sub-contractor for qualifications and weld NDE capabilities. Review any pre-requisites for company specification and mandatory requirements.
7. Interface with our suppliers of welding related materials.
8. Oversee and coordinate weld program, certification and qualification of all welders and weld operators within the organization.
9. Direct and coordinate technical personnel inspections to ensure workers’ compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
10. Will support facilities and manufacturing to ensure that suitable equipment is made available to carry out the manufacturer operations, consider the suitability of welding and associated equipment and relevant auxiliary equipment, this includes suitability of handling equipment i.e. lifting equipment. Consideration should also be given to suitable Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and equipment maintenance.
11. Coordinate and support process control and equipment calibration/validation program. Ensure required equipment is being calibrated/validated and equipment list are being maintained.
12. Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints and complex post heating requirements.
13. Maintain an operational knowledge of all the welding processes used in this facility and be able to demonstrate them. Establish and develop work instruction for manufacturing or quality management systems if required.
14. Evaluate welding products and help maintain the welding material inventory control. Maintain weld consumable storage and handling process and procedures.
15. Provide direction and training for technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure worker’s compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformation with code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
16. Troubleshoot various welding issues.
17. Continuous education with the reading of trade journals, independent study, attendance of professional society meeting and conferences, and formal education to meet Certified Weld Inspector status.
18. Act as manufacturing supervisor on special welding projects.
19. Initiate any continuous improvement activities to insure ongoing improvement in welding efficiency and productivity.
20. Have a good technical background regarding metallurgy and materials.
21. As necessary, prepare technical reports as a result of research and development, root cause failure analysis and preventive maintenance investigations.
22. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Four year college degree – Mechanical Engineering, or 10 years related experience and/or training in Weld Technology or Quality Assurance.
The RWC will have a current or previous certification as an AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) in the conformance with provisions of AWS QC1
The RWC will also have a current certification as a Level II Inspector according to American Society for Nondestructive Testing Recommended Practice (ASNT SNT-TC-1A), in three or more methods. (RT, UT, MT, PT ext..).
Complexity of Skills
· Detailed knowledge of welding and Quality Assurance codes and standards including ASME section IX and AWS D1.1, working knowledge of materials standards (i.e., ASTM material codes), NACE, NORSOK and other industry standards commonly required for weld process certification.
· Metallurgical background preferred.
· Practical experience reading, interpreting and translating customer order and other (i.e., national and international standards) specifications.
· Ability to develop inspection and test instructions based on order and specification requirements and special processes.
· Hands on welding experience in a fabrication, casting repair and piping environment preferred.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
