QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingualism in English and Spanish required
- Minimum of an associate degree
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience
- Bilingualism in Spanish required
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of ESL
DESCRIPTION:
- To Facilitate English Language Learners Acquisition for low-proficiency level ELL/TESOL, focusing on the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening for academic and social growth.
- Serve as an advocate for the needs of ESL/ELL at all proficiency levels when speaking into the school-wide TESOL program, scheduling, language policies and assessments.
- Integrates technology to support ELL/TESOL students academic and social needs and success
- Broad understanding of different cultural, and linguistic of ELL/TESOL students to support their learning and social development.
- Optimistic, positive demeanor and outlook.
- Support the teaching philosophy and believe all students can learn and achieve academic proficiency within a classroom environment where student learning and engagement is encouraged and supported.
- Exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Screen and monitor home language surveys.
- Work with the school leadership team to develop ELL/TESOL program.
- Create a low-stress classroom environment for beginning ELLs/TESOL. students; teach effectively (using best practices methodologies ELL/TESOL) to support a firm acquisition of foundational English, and show evidence of appropriate planning for ELL/TESOL instruction.
- Act as a liaison between ELL/TESOL students an others in the school.
- Share with the school leadership ELL/TESOL assessments data.
- Ensure that ELLs/TESOL students at higher proficiency levels are continuing to acquire academic language in regular classes by ongoing dialogue with mainstream teachers, and appropriate assessments.
- Advocate for ELLs/TESOL students in setting schedules, assessment meetings, access to the regular curriculum, and all other school initiatives, policies and procedures to support a multicultural and multilingual school environment.
- Serve as a liaison with parents of ELLs/TESOL students, helping them to feel comfortable in the school environment and to develop skills and the understanding needed to participate in their child's education.
- Stay abreast of current ELL/TESOL assessments through professional workshops and conferences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach 2nd language to students who are struggling with English reading, writing, and speaking.
- Provide daily instruction to students in a classroom environment.
- Work closely with classroom teachers to ensure that students are learning from a variety of sources in a variety of ways.
- Provide high-quality instruction based on the instructional plan developed by the classroom teachers.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective curriculum
- Provide tutoring and support to students as needed
- Assist in the development of educational materials and resources
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students' language proficiency
- Offer guidance and coaching to other teachers as needed
