A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to perform heavy, manual labor in the areas of water, sewer, sanitation, stormwater, and buildings and grounds. Successful performance helps ensure safe and efficient Public Works services, as well as a positive public image for the City of College Park.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City of College Park’s water and sewer systems. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water and sewer division. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans, and flushes water mains, pipe, valves, and fittings on the repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants, water pump and lift stations; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains. Repairs and maintains City sewer lines and landscapes;Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor/superintendent; cleans equipment. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as jackhammers, tampers, drills, saws, and hydraulic equipment. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs required in the field supervision involved in construction and maintenance projects as a crew leader, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling. Assists in the training of employees to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction, and repair of water and sewer systems. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).Two (3) years of related experience. Possession of a Valid State Class B CDL certification is required or must obtain a Class B CDL within 6-month of employment.Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
