Employee Relations Specialist, Corporate Home Office - Boston, MA (Hybrid)

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for working with employees and leaders to foster a culture that is reflective of Beacon’s Values and ensures an engaging, equitable, inclusive, and respectful experience for all employees. The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist supports Beacon Communities by providing employees, leaders, and select business partners, with expertise, including recommendations on creating a great workplace, interpretation and action planning following employee engagement survey results, policy creation and interpretation, leading workplace investigations performance management, reasonable accommodation inquiries, employee relations data analytics, and other workplace projects impacting the employee experience.
The ER Specialist must be able to handle a wide range of complex and highly sensitive employment situations and demonstrate strong emotional intelligence that permits skillful interaction with employees at all levels of the organization who have a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
Reports to: Employee Relations Manager, Human Resources
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Provide advice on creating and maintaining a positive and engaging work environment.
- Analyze and interpret employee engagement survey results; making action-oriented suggestions in collaboration with other leaders and co-workers as follow-up
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees with a wide range of employee relations issues
- Develop, implement, and interpret employee relations policies and procedures
- Act as an impartial and unbiased observer and representative for all parties involved in a range of employee relations matters.
- Investigate and resolve complex and sensitive workplace matters (discrimination, harassment, retaliation, theft, conflicts of interest, etc), including determining appropriate investigation strategies, leading interviews and document review, and determining findings and recommendations for appropriate resolution
- Develop and conduct employee relations training programs
- Provide formal and informal training for management/supervisory staff on policies and procedures; discipline and discharge; and federal, state, and local laws.
- Draft comprehensive investigation-related documents to include written warnings and other levels of progressive discipline
- Respond to employee complaints with federal, state, and local administrative agencies as needed
- Manage complex situations related to reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and leave of absence
- Assist with other ER project work and consultations related to creating an inclusive and respectful employee experience.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws are followed and consistently applied throughout the states in which Beacon operates. Collaborate with the legal team to ensure compliance.
- Keep informed of all new regulatory requirements and developments within the states in which Beacon operates.
- Create and maintain an effective system for organizing performance counseling and development planning documentation
- Detect and mitigate risk: apply employee and labor relations expertise to successfully identify trends, gaps, and challenges; execute solution-focused strategies and programs to mitigate risks in partnership with the leadership team
Additional Responsibilities
- Analyze, and maintain talent management metrics and data relating to performance
- Draft responses to unemployment claims and participate in unemployment hearings when necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Required Work Experience
- A minimum of 3-5 years of Employee Relations experience preferably in a multi-state organization with a significant non-exempt workforce
Professional License/Registration/Certification
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Preferred
Work Environment
- General Office Environment
- Occasional in and out-of-state travel required
- Moderate stress may occur at times
