Job Summary:
The Sod Farm Laborer performs a variety of tasks. These tasks may include assisting with extra workload, and supplementing crews to meet unusual changes in the production area or in the weather.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate tractors, trucks, and other equipment to prepare and tend to sod fields.
- Plant, maintain, and harvest sod crops according to established procedures.
- Inspect and repair irrigation systems, as needed, to ensure proper hydration.
- Prepare fields for planting by clearing debris and rocks, leveling the ground, and applying fertilizers and other soil amendments.
- Monitor sod fields for signs of disease, pests, or other problems and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Operate machinery and equipment to cut, roll, and stack sod for shipment.
- Assist with loading and unloading sod shipments and transporting them to customer locations.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery used in sod farming operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to work in a variety of roles.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at times.
- Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
