JOB TITLE: Custodian – Night Schedule
TIME: Schedule determined by Facilities Manager and/or Church Administrator
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position maintains the church property, assisting the other Custodians in keeping the facilities in an attractive manner, keeping them available for all functions and activities that have been scheduled, and interacts with church staff, members, and visitors with a helpful and respectful manner.
DUTIES:
- Maintain clean and neat appearance in all rooms, empty trash and recycling containers, clean and stock up bathrooms, clean floors, dust. Help maintain grounds and building. Possible repairs. (25%)
- Prepare the rooms and facilities of the church for meetings and events, ensuring that necessary equipment is available when requested. This position also serves as the representative of the church to the visitors during the evenings and on weekends. Maintain communication with other custodians and office staff regarding building usage and activities. (25%)
- Support requests from church members, guests, or visitors regarding activity needs or facility use. Report to Facilities Manager when groups neglect to clean up after themselves. Redirect visitors looking for help/resources. (20%)
- Ensure that the facility is properly opened for events and properly closed and secured before leaving each evening. Maintain security and safety of the grounds and building. Patrol the parking lots. Respond to any safety or security issues observed or reported, including asking people to leave if they are not here on business. Contact other staff, security vendors, police, and fire officials if needed. (25%)
- Other duties as assigned. (5%)
JOB RELATED DECISION MAKING: This position must be able to make decisions and exercise judgment based on established Facilities policies and procedures in the absence of supervisor or lead custodial staff.
REVIEW OF WORK: Reports to Facilities Manager
RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS: Good communication skills; One year of related work experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Exertive physical requirements: Extensive walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities. Recurring lifting of light or moderately heavy items. Moderate items are items from 15 – 45 lbs.
HOURS: Approximately 40 hours per week in 8-hour shifts (Thursday-Monday, 2-10pm). Subject to adjustment based upon event schedule.
COMPENSATION: $17.91/hour
Staff members are expected to perform their duties in such a manner and spirit as becomes a Christian, and which will make people feel at home in the church. Staff members shall be of good character and be able to work within the structure of the Christian Faith. Staff members shall consent to periodic criminal background checks. In addition to this description staff members are expected to recognize tasks that need to be done, and to undertake them on their own initiative or to draw them to the attention of their supervisor if the tasks are beyond their ability or time.
