Basin Transit Service Transportation District, know locally as BTS provides public transit service for the people of Klamath county. We provide fix route, paratransit, demand response services in Klamath Falls and connecting communities in Klamath County. Our transit service connects people to health care, shopping, education, businesses, non-profits, government agencies, social and recreational activities and other needs. All Transit Operator positions begin as part-time positions, but Transit Operators will have opportunities to transition into a full-time positions that offers set schedules and a full benefits package.
Transit Operators enjoy year round work surrounded by great team members and well-maintained equipment. As a part-time Transit Operator you will be filling in for our full-time Transit Operators which includes both fixed route (larger buses) and paratransit services (smaller para-transit buses).
You must have a valid Oregon Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements. Drug testing, driving record, and criminal history checks are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
· Operates passenger vehicles in accordance with established safety standards and traffic laws of the State of Oregon.
· Operates passenger vehicles over a designated fix route in accordance with the designated routes and schedule
· Operates paratransit passenger vehicles in accordance with the daily manifest pickup and drop locations and times .
· Operates fare box to collect cash and checks for bus fares. Sales monthly bus passes and issues bus transfers.
· Accurately and consistently records all passenger boarding, run-time, and run-number manually on recording sheets if vehicle not equipped with electronic recording devices.
· Accurately and consistently records information required by Federal regulations as directed by supervisor.
· Assists passengers with disabilities per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. This includes but not limited to helping customers onto and off of the lift, sometimes pushing an occupied manual wheelchair and shall secure mobility devices using a four-point wheelchair or mobile device securement system.
· Communicates with Dispatcher and Supervisor using communication radio.
· Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
· Responds appropriately to public inquiries with information about District operations.
· Performs pre-trip vehicle inspection prior to shift start.
· Performs minor housekeeping tasks in vehicle to assure vehicle presents a positive image.
· Fuels the vehicles as directed.
· Recommends improvements to the Supervisor that will enhance the efficiency or image of route services.
· Provides guidance and assists in the training of new employees as needed.
· Reports delays or accidents while driving to Dispatch or the Supervisor.
· Documents and fills out reports of incidents and accidents occurring on the bus or that bus has been involved while in the employees care and operation.
· Reports all mechanical problems to maintenance as soon as possible.
· Complies with all District policies and procedures.
· Follows safe work habits and reports any unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
· Attends training as required. Provides guidance and assists in training of new employees.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
