Job Description
The Medical Billing Assistant is responsible for the accurate and timely collection of outstanding receivables from payer sources and responsible parties. Maintaining accurate account balances in accordance with contractual obligations, fee schedules, or regulations is a required job duty. Collector must understand insurance such as Texas Medicaid, Texas Medicaid Pending, Medicare, Managed Care, and any other commercial insurance payers. The Medical Billing Assistant must possess critical thinking skills and understand Medicare, and Texas Medicaid eligibility requirements as well as commercial insurance payer payment methods to correctly adjust and collect any coinsurance due after insurance payments. In addition, the Medical Billing Assistant must demonstrate proficiency with the billing system to ensure all functionality is utilized for the utmost efficient processing of claims.
Responsibilities
- Process payments and refunds
- Resolve billing and customer credit issues
- Report on collection activity and accounts receivable status
- Audits on all accounts for proper documentation
- Miscellaneous task and proper handling of correspondence received
Skills
- Experience as a Medical Collection Specialist or Medical Billing Assistant
- Experience with Medical Billing EOBs, EOPs, and ERAs of Medicare or Medicaid claims
- Knowledge of Texas Medicaid and Medicaid Pending
- Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques
- Working knowledge of Point Click Care or similar healthcare software
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases
- Comfortable working with targets
- Patience and ability to manage stress due to sudden changes
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Skilled in negotiation
- Problem-solving skills; multitasking and ability to work under pressure
- High school diploma; Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree is a plus
- Must be a team player and willing to follow and learn the current process and procedures
