Job Summary
The Activities Assistant is responsible for specific duties delegated by the Director of Activities. This individual will conduct programs beneficial to the needs and wants of the residents. Must have the ability to work effectively with the elderly.
Qualifications
A. Education and Training – A high school graduate with knowledge and instructional ability in crafts, games and activities will be considered. Some understanding of the physio-social limitations of the elderly is required.
B. Experience - One year experience in working directly with the elderly is preferred.
C. Character - The individual must possess good moral character, patience and compassion for the elderly.
Essential Job Functions
A. Read, write, speak, hear, see, reason and remember.
B. Stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, finger, grasp, feel, repetitive motions and lift medium weight (25-50 lbs.).
C. Document attendance, ability to observe resident's condition, report findings accurately, and conduct programs independently.
D. Perform all job duties and responsibilities as outlined below.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Activities Assistant is supervised by the Director of Activities. The job duties and responsibilities are to be performed while observing the following standards: job standard (knowledge, ability, skills), technical skill, quality, quantity, judgement/problem solving, decision making, and initiative. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
A. Accept and perform daily assignments as given.
B. Prepare activities tools and materials.
C. Prepare the place where the activity is to be held.
D. Assist residents who need assistance.
E. Clean up all tools and materials after each program.
F. Able to have an exchange of ideas in social outlet.
G. Assist volunteers in their activities with residents.
H. Conduct a program independently.
I. Transport residents as necessary.
J. Assist in residents' feeling of self-worth and pride in accomplishments.
K. Assist residents in need during activity programs.
L.Perform other related duties as required by their manager.
General Duties and Responsibilities
A. Participate in all department meetings, mandated inservices, and assigned committees.
B. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with residents, registrants, family members, legal representatives and visitors.
C. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all personnel, including supervisors, co-workers and volunteers.
D. Follow all safety regulations and precautions at all times; use protective devices as required.
E. Wear and maintain proper uniform/clothing as established in the uniform dress code policy, including name tag identification. Maintain acceptable personal hygiene.
F. Maintain confidentiality and resident/patient/registrant rights.
G. Maintain confidentiality of all issues and subject matters, including records, reports, data and other related sensitive materials.
H. Maintain an acceptable attendance rate.
I. Follow all laws, rules and regulations of the Federal and NYS Health Codes in regard to the department and overall organization operations.
Working Environment
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions, activities occur inside and outside in good weather. Works throughout the facility as the activities program dictates. The activities department is open seven days a week, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and provides programs at other various times including evenings.
Exposure to Blood and Airborne Pathogens
This position has been categorized into Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Category 2: perhaps contact with blood/body fluids of person living or non-living contact can be made while feeding or visits are made. Protective equipment should be utilized when performing these tasks.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.95 - $19.06 per hour
