Job Title: Tourism Coordinator

Job Summary:
Spencer County/Taylorsville is seeking a dynamic and organized individual to serve as Tourism Coordinator. This position is responsible for promoting tourism within the city/county, managing various administrative tasks, and representing the region at travel events and shows. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, social media skills including creating videos and editing, familiarity with transient room tax regulations, and be KTIA certified or willing to obtain certification within one year of employment. This is a “work from home” opportunity but the expectation will require much time spent in Spencer County/Taylorsville for social media. There is no designated “office” assigned, but the expectation is to be within the area for social media regularly.
Key Responsibilities:
· Promote tourism within Spencer County/Taylorsville through various marketing and promotional activities.
· Manage the tourism office's social media presence, including posting updates, engaging with followers, and creating engaging content.
o This person must have strong social media skills. The ability to be on camera and speaking as well as the behind the scenes editing capabilities.
· Answer phone calls and respond to email inquiries from tourists, businesses, and other stakeholders.
· Attend travel shows, conferences, and events to promote Spencer County/Taylorsville as a tourist destination.
· Oversee the management of the county's transient room tax, ensuring compliance with regulations and accurate reporting. This includes auditing current collections and seeking out past due tax collection, and informing owners who may not be aware of the tax.
· Coordinate the setup and management of the county's booth at the Pride of the Counties State Fair, including staffing and logistics.
· Collaborate with local businesses, attractions, and organizations to develop tourism initiatives and partnerships.
· Assist with the development of tourism-related marketing materials, such as brochures, maps, and promotional videos.
· Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and opportunities for tourism growth.
· Attend Tourism Commission monthly meeting.
· Attend city commission and fiscal court meetings to inform them of the ongoings of tourism.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the tourism commission.
Qualifications:
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Social media expertise is crucial for this role.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
· KTIA certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification within one year of employment.
· Familiarity with transient room tax regulations is a plus.
· Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, marketing, or related fields preferred.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms.
· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
