Work schedule: Full-time, onsite at La Casa Drop-in Center, 40 hours per week
Agency Overview: La Casa de las Madres (La Casa) is a nonprofit service provider for battered women and their children. Founded in 1976, La Casa is San Francisco’s oldest domestic violence program, providing comprehensive supportive services through an Emergency Shelter, 2-24 hour hotlines, non-residential Community Programs, and Community Education and Outreach Programs serving over 19,000 women, teens, and children survivors of domestic violence each year.
Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Community Programs Manager or their designee, the Receptionist is responsible for the day-to-day front office administrative activities of the Community Office. The reception area helps clients, community partners, and visitors form a first impression of La Casa de las Madres and its employees. The first impression should be positive, welcoming, safe, clean, and comforting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following – all performed prioritizing client confidentiality:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Opening and closing the office, greeting clients and visitors, signing in and registering clients, answering questions, assisting with forms, and collecting records;
- oversee office appearance: ensuring that the reception, playroom, and waiting area are safe and clean;
- periodically review the adequacy of office supplies to ensure the office runs smoothly;
- screen incoming calls and maintain a voice messaging system;
- receive and accurately distribute all incoming agency and client mail;
- ensure outgoing mail is metered correctly and deposited in the mailbox before the last daily pick-up; maintain sufficient postage and postal/delivery supplies and forms;
- acquaint new staff members with front office procedures;
- participate in and document content and attendance at regularly scheduled staff meetings;
- assist in scheduling and maintaining a calendar of drop-in counseling center appointments to maximize staff and staff resources.
- Provide confidential administrative and clerical support to the management team and other duties and special projects as assigned.
Data Entry Responsibilities:
- Enroll new clients in the data tracking system;
- Assist in timely and accurate data entry for all client services, surveys, and evaluations;
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent with some college or technical school coursework preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year of verifiable job-related experience, preferably in a nonprofit agency or small to medium office environment.
- Technical experience, including responsibility for maintaining small office equipment, telephone and computer systems, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish required.

- Physical—Meet the physical requirements of the job, including lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds. You must stand, walk, use your hands and fingers, and handle or feel objects, keyboards, and controls. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
· Fingerprinting may be required for clearance; La Casa de las Madres will consider applicants, including those with criminal histories, per San Francisco’s Fair Chance Ordinance.
· A valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and insurance under agency policy may be required.
Compensation & Other Information: Up to $20 per hour- DOE. The Receptionist is a full-time (40 hours per week) position requiring some flexibility to accommodate other scheduled activities.
