Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a bright and active young man with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking for a Mentor to assist with working on his goals in the community, to help him engage in interactive learning experiences and help build his independence. He is looking to work with someone who is calm, outgoing, positive, and able to help him build natural relationships in the community.
This young man likes to keep busy and enjoys bowling, playing Challenger Baseball, kickball, bocce ball, and music. He loves going to live music in the community and would also be interested in exploring some cooking classes or art classes with his peers. He is looking for staff to support his interests, help develop life skills in money management, and help develop effective communication.
The ideal candidate is reliable, active, comfortable working with people with autism, and has strong verbal communication skills. He works best with people who are patient, kind, and understanding of his anxiety and triggers. Please respond to this ad with a resume or summary of experience.
Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.
Hours and days of work:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays for 3 hours before 3pm (times are flexible!)
Thursdays (2:30pm-7:30pm) to attend baseball games
Multiple staff will be considered to fill the hours. This is a part-time position, but opportunities exist for additional hours with other individuals within the agency
Pay rate:
$22/hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $15 per hour.

Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
