The role of a float pool nurse is crucial to provide adequate staffing to our units. The addition of a float pool team member to a shift is often the catalyst that supports a great shift! Float pool team members have a unique skill set that allows them to adapt to a different unit quickly and effectively. The goal is to match competency with assigned units; for example, an ICU nurse will float to PCU and med/surg. Our med/surg skilled nurses will float among the med/surg units. Our float pool nurses adapt to all unit expectations and support all patient experience initiatives. The leader of the float pool conducts staff meetings with the team, stays connected and facilitates solutions to maintain exceptional care.
Under the direction of the director/charge nurse, the RN utilizes the nursing process, facilitates patient care by making nursing assessments and diagnoses, formulates care plans based on the diagnoses, and implements and evaluates the plan of care.
