Conducts laboratory tests of blood, urine and other body fluid specimens in areas of serology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology and blood bank; analyzes test results; prepares reports for use in aiding diagnosis of disease or infection. Maintains confidentiality of hospital related activities and patient care. Performs duties in a professional manner consistent with hospital policies and procedures, JCAHO and CAP standards. Complies with department and hospital policies and procedures which result in Quality Assurance in conjunction with hospital standards. Demonstrates competence, professionalism, and current knowledge of laboratory technology. Functions effectively under stress; assumes responsibility as necessary and reacts in a manner to best serve the patient.
Assumes responsibility to answer inquiries and address problems as they arise in the absence of a laboratory supervisor.
B.A. or B.S. Degree; Degree in Medical Technology preferred. Must be registered with American Society of Pathologists or be registered with an equivalent national registry.
One year of clinical internship, experience in Laboratory procedures required.
