Job Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Food Safety and Compliance Officer to join our team at Oregon Berry Packing, Inc, in Hillsboro, Oregon. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and regulatory compliance across our operations. As a Food Safety and Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust food safety protocols, conducting audits, and ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement food safety policies and procedures for Oregon Berry farms, facilities and business operations in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement worker safety policies and procedures for Oregon Berry farms and facilities in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Report and track incidents, accidents, and injury claims to Worker’s Compensation carrier and regulatory OSHA liaisons.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Manage recall program and conduct regular mock recalls and traceability exercises.
- Oversee and coordinate sampling and testing protocols for microbial and chemical specifications by country of destination and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality assurance, and supply chain to address any food safety concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Provide training and support to employees on food safety practices, hygiene standards, and regulatory requirements and track employee training in all areas relating to compliance and food safety.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in food safety regulations and industry best practices, and ensure timely implementation of necessary updates.
- Manage documentation and record-keeping related to food safety activities, including maintaining HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans and other relevant documentation.
- Provide compliance paperwork as required for export regulations or customer requirements (e.g. Certificates of Analysis, Supplier Approval documentation, Phytosanitary Certificates and Certificates of Origin, etc)
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to food safety issues, and implement preventive measures to minimize recurrence.
- Coordinate with external regulatory agencies and certification bodies for inspections, audits, and certifications. Manage requirements and training associated with all inspections and audits.
- Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with food safety standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the development and review of product labeling and packaging to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Skills:
- Knowledge of HACCP principles, FDA/CGMP regulations, National Organic Standard, Kosher requirements, Food Defense Planning, and the FSMA Produce Safety Rule.
- Proficiency in quality control processes and techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct risk assessments and root cause analyses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and collaborate with diverse teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Requires flexibility and potential long working hours during summer, potentially some night work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field. Previous experience (3-5 years) in food safety and compliance roles within the food processing industry, preferably in fruit processing or agriculture is preferred.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
