Job Overview:
The Town of Meredith is accepting applications for Full Time Firefighters and Full Time Firefighter Lieutenants. These positions will work 4 days on/4 days off (12 hr/days) from 6am-6pm.
Firefighter Responsibilities:
- Responds to all fire service and emergency medical calls as required.
- Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps, and related equipment, laying hoses, performing fire suppression, containment, and extinguishment tasks.
- Performs emergency medical aid services when required at the EMT-B level.
- Performs post fire clean up and salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, removing water and debris.
- Secures burned buildings against rekindling.
- Aid the public in emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Receives radio and telephone calls, obtains specific information and/or refers calls as necessary to the proper agency or relays fire calls alarms to dispatch. Operates radio and other communications equipment.
- Participates in fire drills, attends training programs, department staff meetings, classes in firefighting, emergency medical care, hazardous materials and related subjects, and maintains required skill levels.
- Assists in conducting training programs.
- Performs fire/safety prevention activities by inspecting buildings and other structures for fire hazards and reviews plans and maps to ensure that facilities comply with fire codes. Advises owners of changes required or compliance orders or warning citations.
- Other duties as assigned by Fire Department Leadership
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and demonstrated experience in firefighting, OR specialized training in firefighting techniques, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education demonstrating the ability to learn and perform the above duties. Associate Degree in Fire Science or a related field or 5 years of firefighting experience preferred.
Firefighter I Pro Board Certification or be currently eligible to laterally transfer within the State of New Hampshire and be current/eligible on the State of New Hampshire CPAT list. A Class B Commercial Driver’s License is not a requirement but preferred. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 700 of the Administrative Rules, Part 701.01 Fire Fighter Entrance Requirements. This includes an NFPA 1582 Physical sign off.
Be certified as or obtain Basic EMT certification (at a minimum) within 18 months of hire. Be certified as or obtain Firefighter II Pro Board Certification within 12 months of hire. Possess or obtain a NH Boaters license within 12 months of hire.
Pay Range:
$26.77 to $35.14 DOE
