JOB SUMMARY
This position performs customer service duties in the processing of title/tag applications, in the renewal of motor vehicle tags, and in the collection of property tax, delinquent tax, mobile home tax, timber tax, etc.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Processes payments for ad valorem taxes, including mobile home, personal property, timber, and real property taxes; records transactions, posts payments, and issues receipts; balances cash drawers; prepares revenue for deposit and forwards as appropriate; calculates various taxes, exemptions, interest, fees, or other charges; issues appropriate tags and decals.
- Issues vehicle tags and processes title applications for vehicle and motor homes; enters related information into state databases; processes transactions in-person, by mail, and online; processes vehicle purchases from dealerships; balances daily transactions; balances cash drawer and prepares deposits; issues handicap placards; accounts for inventory of metal tags and decals.
- Provides customer service at the counter, by telephone, and by mail or email; provides information and assistance related to taxes, bills, payments, procedures, documents, or other issues.
- Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections.
- Performs basic maintenance of computers systems and office equipment.
- Maintains files and records; prepares departmental files; sorts and organizes documents to be filed; files documents in designated order; retrieves and replaces files.
- Opens new accounts for mobile homes; files mobile home receipts and cards; issues mobile home decals; prints and mails delinquent mobile home tax bills, post cards, and decals.
- Researches and identifies correct addresses for returned mail correspondence.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the Official Code of Georgia, Department of Revenue guidelines, Division of Motor Vehicles guidelines, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the processing of tag and title transactions and/or in the collection of taxes and fees. Successful performance ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.

- Contacts are typically with coworkers, other county personnel, automobile dealers, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, bank personnel, mortgage company representatives, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.

None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
