Job Description:
- Lead a team of estimators in the structural steel company, overseeing the estimation process for steel construction, pre-engineered metal buildings, and miscellaneous metals projects.
- Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and other relevant factors.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to identify project scope, potential risks, and value engineering opportunities.
- Utilize industry-leading software and tools for estimating, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in estimating processes.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators, fostering their professional development and enhancing team productivity.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize project bids and proposals, ensuring competitiveness in the market while maintaining profitability.
- Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and material costs to make informed decisions during the estimation process.
- Finding potential projects through job leads, cold call, review project listings online.
- Analyze completed project actual costs and performance.
- Analyze current market pricing on metal structure costs (labor and types of labor; equipment; hardware, metal roof and wall panels, decking, structural steel, etc.).
- Communicating project award with team.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic.
- Extensive experience (5 years) in structural steel construction estimation, with a strong understanding of pre-engineered metal buildings and miscellaneous metals.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead and manage a team of estimators, driving collaboration and achieving team goals.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret project requirements and develop accurate cost estimates.
- Proficiency in industry-standard estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, Tekla, Microsoft), with a strong understanding of MS Excel for data analysis and cost modeling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Strong attention to detail and organization, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and build relationships with clients and vendors, maximizing project profitability and securing business opportunities.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying updated with evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
- Ability to navigate specifications and plans.
- Knowledge of the latest building codes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in structural steel estimation, with a track record of successfully estimating projects ranging in size and complexity.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role, overseeing a team of estimators and managing estimation workflows effectively.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator - CPE, Certified Construction Manager - CCM) preferred.
- Proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive bids, contributing to the success and growth of the organization.
