The Role:
KRCL is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented self-starter to join the firm as an Immigration Paralegal in our Houston office. The Immigration Paralegal will provide support to the attorneys of the practice group. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be a proactive team player, have good organizational and math skills, be detail-oriented, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Requirements:
- Reviewing documents provided by the client and preparing index of supporting documents.
- Draft petition forms, support letters and assemble supporting documents for attorney review.
- Maintaining client files online and offline.
- Preparing and filing immigrations petitions electronically and in paper.
- Tracking client document expiration dates (I-94, EAD, I-797, visa, etc.).
- Communicating with attorney regarding upcoming expiration dates.
- Assist attorney in filing immigration petitions, including immigration forms and letters.
- Assisting Attorney with preparing immigration packages to ship.
- Ensuring packages are compiled properly and saved properly in the firm’s files prior to shipping.
- Draft correspondence to clients with support of attorney.
- Calendar reminders and deadlines for not only paralegal tasks but also attorneys and other team members.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of immigration forms, how to fill them out, and how to file them electronically and on paper.
- Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree preferred but not required.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years experience and knowledge working on immigration matters as a paralegal.
- Bilingual skills are highly sought after to provide seamless communication with clients.
- Knowledge of immigration case file systems like INSZoom, myUSCIS, DOL Flag, DOS DS-160, and FOIA request websites (USCIS FIRST and secure release portal).
- Research and translation skills to understand filing requirements of various countries.
- Proficient writing skills to draft letters to various immigration agencies and memos to clients.
- Ability to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations.
- Familiar with all types of employment-based immigration practices.
- Exceptional computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Software.
- Must possess strong attention to detail, organized, and be an effective time manager to meet project deadlines.
- Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to speak and write clearly and informatively and able to read and interpret information.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be willing to work additional hours and weekends as required for the role.
