Responsibilities:
To ensure effective radiographic images of specific parts of a patient's body, a physician has requested to make a diagnosis or perform a procedure on. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, recognizes safety hazards, and initiate appropriate corrective and/or preventative measures.
Duties of the position:
· Obtain proper, clear x-rays of patients during procedures. Review and evaluate developed x-rays, video tape, or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
· Position a patient's body in a specific manner to capture the exact image ordered by the physician for non-sedated procedures. Proper maneuvering of equipment to maintain sterile fields during sedated procedures. Place the imaging equipment at the correct height and angle relative to the patient's body to produce the radiograph needed. They may take other measurements to determine the minimum effective amount of radiation needed to gather the appropriate image and set the controls accordingly.
· Follow regulations for protecting patients, coworkers, and themselves from unnecessary exposure to radiation from the equipment and environment. Precautions to reduce the potential hazardous radiation include gloves, aprons and other shielding devices. Educate employees when necessary.
· Maintain appropriate departmental supplies as available.
· Assist with moving patients and turning over operating rooms.
· Wear designated surgical attire.
· Assist in positioning patients for surgery. Assist with positioning and holding extremities during prep.
· Change PACU curtains, garbage, assist with patient turnover. Stocking linens, fluids, and supplies
· Runs errands as needed.
· Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Director/ADON.
· Help restock inventory and assist in notifying low inventory.
- Prepare the relevant equipment, tools, and examination rooms for use.
- Conduct the imaging exams and monitor the patients through the process.
- Ensure the safety of the patient before, during, and after the procedure.
- Take care of the documentation and communication of the results of the X Ray exams.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and in working order at all times.
· Produce quality images using c-arm during surgical procedures.
· Assist in OR terminal cleaning and turnover.
· Assist in office/surgical function when X-ray use is not needed. Duties include, but not limited to: phones, paperwork, restocking, ordering, etc.
· Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
· Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan
· Operate or oversee operation of radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
· Position and immobilize patient on examining table.
· Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
· Key commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images.
· Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality.
· Set up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. Provided, by Practice Results
· Prepare and administer oral or injected contrast media to patients.
· Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
· Remove and process film.
· Record, process and maintain patient data and treatment records, and prepare reports.
· Coordinate work with clerical personnel and other technologists.
· Provide assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients.
· Move ultrasound scanner over patient's body and watch pattern produced on video screen.
· Measure thickness of section to be radiographed, using instruments similar to measuring tapes.
· Operate fluoroscope to aid physician to view and guide wire or catheter through blood vessels to area of interest.
· Perform scheduled maintenance and minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment.
· Adhere to operating room/office dress code policy.
· Identify and resolve operational problems.
· Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
· Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliation.
· Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
· Perform related work as required
Physical Requirements:
Good physical conditions to frequently walk, bend, stoop and squat; occasionally sit, occasionally lift, carry, push, pull maximum over 50lbs with assistance. Must be able to see, hear, speak, and use both hands to easily communicate. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected or normal vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, blood or body fluids.
Occupational Exposure:
Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood or body fluid, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a surgical operating room environment. Frequent late and periodical weekend "on-call" hours
Competencies:
1. Basic Life Support (BLS)
2. Sterile Technique and principles of aseptic technique
3. Medical x-ray techs need to be on their feet for long periods.
4. Able to help with turning over rooms when needed.
5. Able to tell what is sterile and what is not.
6. Help open rooms up. Help move equipment in and out of rooms.
7. Can lift up to 50lbs.
8. Help clean rooms when needed.
9. Position pt with MD approval
- Be able to operate relevant machinery and radiologic technologies.
- Know the proper height, distancing, and positioning for radiologic procedures.
- Be able to communicate effectively with patients and answer their questions in a professional and reassuring manner.
- Be able to follow the safety guidelines and regulations properly.
- Have adequate background knowledge and experience.
15. Run a C-Arm under the direction of MD.

Ability to maintain Quality Control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and to carry out orders quickly and effectively. Ability to follow and understand a surgical procedure and anticipate the surgeons needs. Ability to work effectively as a team member within the organization.
