Located on a 12-acre campus in Jeffersonville, PA, The Pathway School provides students with special needs academic, social, and life skills to be successful and independent now and after attending Pathway. Pathway is a nonprofit special education school for students ages 5 to 21 (grades K-12+) from over 50 regional school districts and charter schools. Over its 63-year history, the school has grown immensely in population size, currently with 185 students and over 160 staff members. Technical Skills:
- Ability to provide diagnostic testing and function as part of the diagnostic team process.
- Ability to work with Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s).
- Ability to learn and apply Pathway School-wide Positive Behavior Support System (PBS) as well as individual student Behavior Support Plans.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students that have moderate to severe social and emotional difficulties.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to meet students’ learning needs as well as motivate students to engage in the learning process.
- Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures when students are in crisis.
- Must be able to collaborate and communicate with parents, school districts, related service providers and paraprofessional staff to meet student needs.
Compliance Requirements:
- Must comply with Act 168 and submit a completed Sexual Misconduct Form.
- Must able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory PA criminal background check, Child Abuse & FBI clearances and pass a drug test, as well as, a TB Test;
- Must be able and willing to drive and have a valid PA driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires an important level of energy. Physical activities can include both sitting and standing for long periods of time, lifting, climbing, bending/stooping, grasping and pulling. Must have full range of motion in order to provide possible emergency care and/or administer effective/safe CPI techniques. This position requires walking and could include working in both an indoor environment as well as an outdoor environment (cold/hot).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Special Education a plus. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education required. We do have Tuition Reimbursement and an induction program in place for Instructional I Educators.
Must have Pennsylvania Special Education Certification in Elementary Education Certification in the State of Pennsylvania.
A minimum of 1 year of experience working with and supervising paraprofessional staff.
A minimum of 1 year of experience teaching students with significant social and emotional needs required. We do give credit to student teaching experience.
DUTIES:
- Supports and performs job duties in accordance with the established mission and values of the Pathway School.
- Develops an individualized education program (IEP) for each student assigned to his/her classroom based on current educational and emotional/behavioral assessments/ evaluations. Revises IEP, when required, subject to established procedures.
- Requests further educational assessment information when needed from educational specialists or consultative assistance from clinical staff.
- Provides individual assistance and direction to students in learning, counseling, and classroom management situations.
- Maintains assessment/evaluation information and a current copy of the IEP for each assigned student in classroom files for use in planning instruction.
- Shares IEP information with Instructional Coordinator(s) and/or 1:1 staff; makes certain that said staff clearly understands their IEP responsibilities; maintains appropriate documentation.
- Prepares classroom lesson plan, which clearly takes into account student differences.
- Instructs assigned students according to the established IEP goals, designated objectives and Pennsylvania curriculum guidelines.
- Maintains appropriate classroom discipline.
- Uses the corrective teaching interactions from the Student Achievement Model to re-teach inappropriate use of social skills.
- Uses ongoing behavior teaching interaction from the Student Achievement Model training to address “out of instructional control” behavior.
- Monitors student progress on IEP goals and maintains a record of each student’s instruction, including IEP objectives mastered.
- Collects and maintains all appropriate student data as directed by his/her supervisor.
- Prepares, plans, and implements a therapeutic classroom.
- Participates in daily debriefing and planning with related service providers, instructional coordinator to include IEP team meeting and interagency meetings.
- Prepares for and contributes to student team meetings, parent-team conferences and IEP planning meetings.
- Participates in ongoing staff development training program including, but not limited to, training in: Boy's Town Model, Well Managed Classroom, CPI, classroom management, Positive Behavior Support, physical restraints, and instructional strategies.
- Writes student progress reports as determined by the School Principal.
- Administers informal and standardized educational tests.
- Requisitions textbooks, instructional materials and supplies as needed through established procedures.
- Makes appropriate and effective use of the assigned Instructional Coordinator.
- Maintains student attendance records and submits required information to supervisors according to established procedures.
- Contributes to in-service education programs at the request of an Educational Supervisor and/or the Educational Director.
- Participates in the development of curriculum, instructional materials and techniques.
- Assists in developing and carrying out research or project plans as assigned by the Educational Director.
