Symbolic Displays, Inc. (SDI), a woman owned small aerospace business, which has been in existence since 1964, serving military and commercial avionics and marine and ground-based platforms is looking for a self-starter, highly self-motivated individual to join our team as a Mechanical Engineer.
Under general supervision, will produce electro-mechanical engineering designs and modifications by: (1) Analyzing project requirements; (2) Researching and developing electro-mechanical engineering techniques and approaches; (3) Validating and verifying designs; (4) Supporting project implementation; (5) Maintaining production documentation and providing production support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determine electro-mechanical design requirements, objectives and priorities, using input from customers and evaluating similar and related products.
- Develop electro-mechanical designs by researching, analyzing, selecting and applying advanced engineering tools (CAD software); preparing diagrams, schematics and drawings using Computer Aided Design software; collaborating with related design teams; evaluating components, materials and suppliers; identifying and resolving design integration/interface and manufacturability issues; determining and establishing design specifications and safety standards.
- Document design by recording electro-mechanical design features, functions, and operational requirements; specifying operational training; detailing safety and support requirements.
- Maintain design team accomplishments by coordinating activities; obtaining expert input; reviewing open issues and action items; contributing informational and electro-mechanical analysis to team meetings and reports.
- Provide sustaining support by offering technical support; troubleshooting and resolving production problems related to electro-mechanical design.
- Actively support the Quality Improvement System.
- Additional duties as required.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Preferable: 1 or more years of relevant mechanical design experience.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop and Autodesk Inventor CAD design software (2D and 3D modeling) and Microsoft Office products.
- Knowledge of electronic systems, electronic production and optical / lighting technologies
- Analytical tools - ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule format.
- Strong background with system level electro-mechanical design.
- Familiar with ISO/ AS9100 regulated environment.
- Familiar with industry and aerospace MIL-Standards.
- Hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a fast track (fast paced, fast to market) design to production environment.
- Experience working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
- Must have authorization to work in the United States
- English, must speak, read, write
Required Education
- Requires a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
