Lunch/Recess Paraprofessional Job Description
The K-12 Lunch/Recess Paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well being of students at lunch and recess. This position will monitor, help, communicate and direct students as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor students during lunch and recess.
- Monitor students in the cafeteria waiting in line and while eating.
- Ensure all students have something to eat. Assist students in opening containers during lunch.
- Assist and support behavior management.
- Communicate behavioral concerns to administration.
- Provide assistance for students requiring additional guidance.
- Assess the playground for security and the condition of the equipment for safety. Report concerns to the appropriate staff member.
- Ensure the safety of students under all conditions.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
- Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Education and Related Work Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No experience required.
- Interest in children and education.
- Criminal background check is required for hire.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate with students, staff and parents.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various groups.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills while working with a diverse population.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to focus.
- Work is often performed outside with possible exposure to extreme temperatures or loud noises.
- Work hours may occasionally be extended.

Hiring Salary Range: $16.50 - $18.56
