GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES:
The Surgical Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Otolaryngology will manage patient care in an outpatient clinic at Stockton Medical Center community-based clinic. This position is allied with the Otolaryngology providers within the VA Northern California Healthcare, which are academic affiliates of UC Davis. The ability to work collaboratively with trainees (e.g., interns, residents, medical students, NP students, PA students, etc.,) and a multidisciplinary staff (e.g., attending physicians, other nurse practitioners, speech language pathologists, audiologists, etc.) in a high-throughput, educational and collegial environment is crucial. Surgical service NPs can be involved in any aspect of the patient care process, including but not limited to evaluation of new consult patients, provision of procedural examinations (ear microscopy, flexible laryngeal endoscopy, biopsies, epistaxis control, etc.), educational mentoring of trainees, and aspects of pre/post-operative care. This position will also comprise of a component of telework for consultations that can be accomplished in the virtual setting – averaging approximately 1 day per week to start. The Surgical NP will be expected to work in a multidisciplinary way to ensure smooth and safe transitions in care, especially with any needed operative interventions, which will be completed at the affiliated VA NCHCS. It is expected that our Surgical service NP will become content experts in the field of Otolaryngology, specifically ensuring timely completion of consultations, and ensuring safety by making sure all clinical and performance measure needs are addressed through the process of care. The NP will also be invited to participate in collaborative Quality Improvement and Processes, as well as ongoing research efforts as interested.
Projected Schedule will be as follows:
Monday: 07:00-17:30 Side by Side Consult Clinic (With STN ENT Surgeon)
Tuesday: 07:00-17:30 – Postop Clinic/ New Consults
Wednesday: 07:00-17:30 New Consult Clinic
Thursday: 07:00-17:30 NP Procedure/Cerumen Clinic
Friday: OFF
